The Do’s And Don’ts Of Guest Blogging

By February 18, 2014 Guest Posting No Comments

Guest blogging has the potential to help your business break away from the competition online and get noticed. It’s a marketing method that allows you to reach new clients, generate interest, show that you’re an expert in your field, and improve brand awareness. But there is a right and wrong way to do everything, and that includes guest posting. At Guest Post HQ, we believe that you need all the knowledge possible to get the right results from your efforts. That’s why we created this short list of a few things you should and shouldn’t do where guest blogging is concerned.

• Do spend time making sure that you know the blog you’re guest posting on is worth posting on. Look at things like their visitor count, what kind of marketing their administrators do online, and whether or not they are a good match with your field.

• Do set up some clear goals about what you expect from the experience. It’s common for those who have never guest blogged before to think that it’s going to give them huge boosts in numbers overnight. Set good goals, but be realistic about them.

• Do use fresh, original, and compelling content. Stale content won’t make a potential customer or client interested in what you have to offer since they’ll be bored with it. By creating some fresh, unique content that actually helps them in one way or another, you’ll get better results by far.

• Do show off your expertise. This could be your chance to really impress clients and customers, so try to make sure a guest blog shows off your knowledge, experience, and capabilities without seeming like a marketing pitch.

• Don’t use a guest post to advertise directly. Nothing is worse than a blog post that is nothing more than a sales pitch. Instead, try to focus on a subject that relates to your field that your clients or customers may be interested in. A simple mention of your company and a couple of links back will be enough to get them to your site.

• Don’t ignore your readers. Once your post is up, monitor it to see if any readers have commented. If they have, try to engage with them. By responding to comments on your blog you can improve their impression of you in a big way.

• Don’t forget your own blog. Your primary blog needs fresh content posted on a regular basis. Your guest post may hook new visitors and potential customers, but if you stop giving them a reason to visit your blog or your site, they may very well stop visiting entirely.
